Our Philosophy
Early childhood education plays an essential role in our communities.
Early childhood experiences create the foundations for who we become and what we believe about ourselves, others and our world.
Children deserve the opportunity to learn and grow alongside patient, innovative, curious and compassionate adults who are their parents, guardians and educators.
-
Our Approach
We work with Alberta’s Early Learning and Childcare Framework, Flight, which guides and encourages constant reflection on the values, principles, holistic objectives and learning dispositions of the children. This emerging and contextual curriculum evolves from what children do every day as they care, play, learn and grow.
We believe deeply in the importance of play and time spent in the natural world. We are so fortunate to have amazing parks and treed spaces/ woodlands adjacent to our schools that offer and teach us so much about relationships, reciprocity, responsibility, community and well-being.

Our Team
Our passionate and dedicated educators engage in a daily practice of relationships and see their role as co-learners, co-researchers and co-imaginers of possibilities alongside children, families and colleagues. Our commitment to continuous reflection helps shape and direct learning, exchanges, activities, documentation and responsive environments both inside and outside the classroom.

Our Values
Our values are at the heart of everything we do. We value:
Childhood: play, discovery, freedom, time, space
Relationships: communication, empathy, reciprocity, conflicts, authenticity
Learning: curiosity, intention, meaning making, connections, patience
Citizenship: respect, democracy, equity, active listening, responsability
Respecting childhood
At La Capucine, we collectively hold an image of children as competent learners and caring citizens. Creating connections with families, community, and the natural spaces around us ensures a learning environment where children feel respected, connected and safe to explore and discover. Noticing, naming and nurturing their observations, interactions, and experiences, documenting and sharing our journeys and discoveries with families, builds the confidence and skills needed for a child’s transition into primary school.
